"Badly written." You do realize how silly that comment is now, don't you? :D

Honestly I've got nothing more. It's a helluva position she's in, and there's surely no "good" plan to go by in this case... But you know what? I think I
I'm gonna pull out SITS myself and see how it'd work. Admittedly I don't have any Warlord-class battlecruisers, though - I"ll have to use Sultans. :plotting:

Athena is obvously an Apollo-class, but what about the rest of the escort?

The rest of Yuki's squadron: HMS Amaterasu was another Apollo-class CL. HMS Hawkwing, there's some debate over what destroyer class Hawkwing is, though the general concensus seems to be that she was the lead ship of her class. Suffice to say that she was Honor's first hyper-capable command and was in her middle age then. Lastly HMS Aria is a Chanson class destroyer, same as Alistair's Troubadour at Yeltsin.

Okay, so those four, plus a Majestic-class dreadnaught far out of range, against a Peep BatCruDiv and sceen.

Actually HMS Hawkwing was a Falcon-class destroyer according to Jayne's Intelligence Review of the Royal Manticoran Navy.

Haha, cool... Haven't got the intelligence reviews myself so... yeah. Relying on the interbotz, which, lets face it, isn't exactly the most reliable info source =P

Hmm, I guess the situation I had in mind when I drew the pic was something like: Yuki's convoy headed in-system about 2 LM in from the hyper limit. The Peeps obviously make their alpha translation behind her: 1 full BatCruRon comprised of Warlord-class BCs with the heavy pod load in tow and screen. I hadn't thought too hard about the system picket as they're too far away to reach Yuki before the Peeps would pull her into their missile envelope if the convoy runs. Considering the relative un-importance of the system though probably one under-strength BatCruRon with a CruRon as screen, probably a few destroyers in the mix too. Pods available for the BCs... though a savvy commander might distribute those a bit more widely if he wanted the task group to be more nimble. Guess they'd be in orbit around whatever the major inhabited planet is, hot nodes. There might be a CruDiv or two detached from said screen to cover any out-system infastructure, but I wouldn't count on it. Same goes for system defence pods. If they don't have enough sensor platforms to fully cover the system then I don't think they'd have that many pods at their disposal. Add to that that Yuki's ships are coming down what would probably be deemed a direction to expect friendly ships to approach from...

I love the Honorverse: so much jargon, so much room for technical, tactical and strategic debate =P

As evidenced by the gawd-awfully long string of replies.

I also played this scenario out through SITS yesterday as best I could. (I'm limited in what I can do by what ships I have.)

First play-through: Peeps picked up Yuki's ships and detatched their screen. Aria was the only ship to avoid being destroyed outright, but she lost all her weapons but a single laser in her forward hammerhead. The Peep Screen (I played with 3 CAs, and 4 DDs engaging Yuki's ships) lost one CA and two DDs.

Second time around the Peeps didn't see Athena and company until they opened up at close range on their pods. I lost Amerastu to energy fire from one of the BCs, but knocked off all their pods. At this point, the Peeps weren't able to avoid action against the system's picket, Peeps went bye-bye.

Third play-through, I tried something different. I was able to get into powered missile range, but fired on the BCs themselves instead of their pods. Here's the trick: The missiles (laser-heads instead of nukes as you suggested) went in ballistic until they hit 100k km from their targets, then brought up their wedges. Three of the four BCs took laser-heads down the throat. Two of them took hits all the way to their forward fusion plants: Ka-boom. One lost forward impellers and fell out of formation, but the CA behind it.... Wedge-on-wedge fratricide. Yuki gets the Manticore Cross. The dice loved her this time.

Admittedly a small sample size, and dice are notorious traitors sometimes. But two victories out of three isn't bad. I'd have done more, but there was that whole "sleep" thing...

...sounds like I defs need to get my own S.I.T.S set...

Yeah, nukes would probably only be useful against the pods. Unless you're name's Rafe probs best to stick to laser-heads against actual warships =P

If they took that much fire in the first scenario then I reckon that'd make fair chances that they'd get chewed up against a full strength screen.

But yes, I hate dice, I really do =P

There's a science to the care and feeding of dice. I was using a set of dice I hadn't charged with good karma. (Not Kidding).

And yes. Don't sling nukes at a ship unless you have no choice - or your name is Rafael.
