I can agree with you on the fact that it doesn't state when the war started or how many of the actual olympians were born around then.
I do agree on the fact that it'd just be logic that Athena would be there. Although I've heard rumors that Hermes was there too, maybe there was more than one war...?
It drives me nuts out of the fact that there's always missing pieces to the myths. Whether it's just how the Olympians defeated Typhon (or that Zues did it alone) to who was there then, even.
I just love Greek mythology! I've been reading since childhood! AND HERMES iS MY FAV!

Yes, the myths sometimes talk about two wars, the Titanomachia and the Gigantomachia. According to one version, Gaia gave birth to the gigantes as a revenge for what the olympians did to the titans (her children). And even the younger gods, such as Hermes and Dionysos, seem to have fought in the Gigantomachia. The oldest surviving texts just mention the Titanomachia, though. And later authors sometimes see the Titans and the Gigantes as identical, making it just one big war. Ah, it is indeed confusing! How I wish that the epic poem about the Titanomachia had survived...

Nevertheless, Greek mythology rocks! And Hermes is definitely one of my favourites too. :D

I think Hades is my number one. He didn't do as much crazy shit as most of the other gods and I like that he can be interpreted as quite asocial. ^^
But Hermes and Athena come very close next to him.
