Yes, it definitely is probably one of the most awesome and amazing games ever.
I mean... the rules are comparatively simple, but the COMPLEXITY of it is impressive!

These compliments mean a lot to me, especially since i am not a native english speaker.
Writing... Hm, i dont think i am much of a writer... Though i love chatting on here and writing comments and theralike, and i love reading a lot. And my comments on here, as well as my journals, ALWAYS turn out WAY too long. Same goes for my artist´s comments, haha.
And yeah, i get what you mean by "complex plans that never seem to work".
I think, when you plan something strategic, it is easily overlooked, how easily your opponent might cross your plans, consciously or accidentally.
Also, developement is very important. It is a very good idea to try to gain control over large areas of the chessboard as early in the game as possible, yet alone for the fact, that your figures might easily block each others moves if you dont move out quickly....
And yes, chess is partially about practice. Memory, for the most part, but thats only part of it.
