There's a story about Kelly sitting in a bar and some Pogofan walks in and goes over to him and begins gushing over Pogo and what a genius his creator is, and when the guy left, WK looked over at the bartender and said, "Did you ever hear such bullshit in your life?"
Wow, really? Yikes- despite being a comic genius, Kelly sounds like he was a douche, just like that guy who created "Ren & Stimpy"

Perhaps he was just peeved at being interrupted. Kelly was said to be one of the best barroom talkers in New York, he could expound on virtually any topic you could think of. In later years, probably due to that activity, he gained a lot of weight, got diabetes and had a leg removed, not something to make one cheerful.
