In July 2004, I blew out an already operated on disc at L4-L5. I suffered with it for about a year and a half, not wanting to have surgery. So I tried physical therapy, epidural injections, chiropractors, and was just beginning VAX-D - a stretching of the spine by applying about 60lbs of weight to relieve the pressure from the disc on my spinal cord or sciatic nerve or where ever it was pressing - when Hurricane Katrina came to town. We evacuated and in the process made my back worse to the point I couldn't walk too well and I had lightning bolts shooting down my right leg 24/7. It was awful. I got another MRI here in Natchez and saw an orthopedist in Jackson, MS who said I couldn't avoid surgery any longer. It had to be done. So, in January of 2006, 5 months after Katrina destroyed our house and our belongings, I had 4 screws, 2 rods, and a bone graft at L4-L5. I spent 3 months recovering, went back to work in NO starting April 3 and I haven't stopped since (until I lost my job this past March). But after all that time on Vicodin (almost 2 years), I just lost my taste for alcohol. Luckily, I didn't get addicted to the Vicodin. Once the pain stopped, I stopped taking them and that was that.
And, I am not obese, but I'm not exactly stick thin either. So Diet Coke is a mainstay. I like the taste of it better than regular Coke anyway.
Thanks for asking.
