Yes, but they also don't exist in the real world - they exist instead in a different universe where the whole of the US has laws permitting gay marriage. 
Parallel universe huh. Now still not all of US states permitted in real world as you say.
I know it's not allowed everywhere in the US for real (yet), but I think in the future the laws will change and same-sex marriage there will be available for all (and those couples who wish can get married in another state, until that happens). It's been passed into law over here (in Great Britain) for about the last year and a half (but not in NI).
