I do like bristol. I haven't tried many different types of paper so I don't have much to compare it to. It does make shading pretty easy and it holds up well to erasing because it's fairly heavy. Vellum has a slightly textured surface and smooth is less textured making it good for fine details. If you can find it I recommend it.
