I love the colors and style here, it's very fitting to the mythological species. And I want to congratulate you on making a more original version of the hippocampus, most artists just follow a standard design, but this one makes it seem fairly plausable.

You could make it comical, like the elephant had a few too many peanuts in the circus so the shiny blanket thing (you know, that they are adorned with in the circus) is just about to pop off but he's still eating those peanuts! I think that'd be cool…

Ha! I like that idea... I might just use that. I think it would be further comical if this scene was drawn in a variant of such an elaborate style!
