:D Yep! Those are eastern box turtles. They have such a wide range of pattern and colors! I saw a snapping turtle last week, it was HUGE (armful huge...of course, you can't hold it in your arms or else you'll lose a finger!) Isn't that funny how easy it is to humanize animals? As long as it gets people to notice them it's a good thing. :D Though most animals are more human than we know so there..or rather we're more animal than we think. ;)

^^; Oh yeah! That would've been a better choice. Oops, live and learn! :highfive:

I'm totally in love with the eastern box turtle now! I just looked it up, it's Carolina-Dosenschildkröte in German: Caroline tin turtle! :D There are several subspecies...
Wooow, a snapping turtle!! :eyepopping: They can be really scary, but they're also awesome! I love their tails, they make them look like dinosaurs!

I totally agree with you. There seems to be a good way of humanizing animals after all. ;)

:la: I know aren't they awesome?! We have several of the subspecies around here, though we usually just see the eastern. Seen the florida box turtle once. :) We just accepted a rescued snapper today. A friend of ours brought it to us with a crack in its shell after a car purposefully hit it (while the man was standing there getting ready to help it! Stupid motorists!) It wasn't a serious injury so we released it to our pond. It'll have PLENTY to eat there! :D

:-O Oooh, poor snapper! What a cruel thing to do to a wild animal!! :rage:
Really? And what will it eat in your pond? :) Oooh, you have so much wildlife around you...

:( I know, some people can be so cruel! The rednecks around here AIM for any wildlife anywhere near the road! :explosion:
The snapper will eat frogs and tadpoles and little fish...we have so many little fish and tadpoles that the water constantly ripples from their swimming! :D

In Australia, where they have a plague of cane toads, many people swerve about on the roads to hit as many of them as possible with the wheels, but I think even that is pathetic because they'll never get rid of all the toads that way. Aiming at wild animals who aren't introduced and possibly even rare should be considered a crime! :rage:
I hope the snapper will be happy and healthy in your pond. :) They can become quite big, can't they? Is it a male or female?

D: I knew there was a plague of toads in Australia, but I didn't know they were so hated that people ran them over in the roads! Granted if there are too many to dodge you're going to be hitting them...but to do so willingly and spitefully is despicable! :explosion:

:meow: I'm sure he'll be the happiest snapper ever! They can get huge, not sure how huge, but the biggest we've seen is a foot and a half long (just the shell! Not including the head and tail!) We're not sure what sex this one was, but it was agitated and we weren't willing to check. ;) LOL

Yes, the toads have conquered about the whole northern area of Australia. They're everywhere and they eat up all the native small marsupials and they don't have natural enemies there because of their poison. Even alligators die after eating them, so people there are really not fond of them. :(

Hehe, such a happy snappy! Yes, I guess you really have to be careful while picking one of them up! I think they're great, though.
