I have no idea on how to make the edges look better but your right on the textures, I made the hull myself but i felt too lazy to do the rest of the ship. Thanks for the Fav

Listen, this may or may not be of any help to you, but I found this incredibly helpful site made by a Russian guy I have on my devWATCH. It's about making ships from/for concept art, and he makes incredible ships. You might want to give it a read-over, it has a lot of useful tips.
