Looks kinda like the core has shifted out of the hydrogen burning stage and into helium, or gone all the way to iron. Actually now that I think about it it seems more like a black dwarf.

Even I've never heard of Black Dwarfs before, I thought brown was the dimmest 
if it's just s sphere of smoldering iron there's a chance it could look a little like this I suppose, would be very small though I bet 
but yeah, in this surreal scene it could be anything even if it dosn't exist

But they show up after the core of a star has completely changed to iron.
