The more religious a society the more intolerant it will be. There was almost no homophobia prior to Christianity and islam. the vast, vast majority of all atrocities committed against homosexual people, in the history of mankind, has been at the hands of Christians and Muslims. In the ancient world, in aboriginal tribes on all of the continents and island groups, homosexuality seems to have not only been accepted, but ofter revered. Homosexuals typically tok the roles of Shaman, medicine man and medicine woman, tribal teachers, tribal negotiators, counselors...

Same-sex sex was openly practiced and accepted in the largest empires in the world, in the Greek, Persian, and Roman empires and in some of the ancient Chinese Dynasties.

The really sad thing is that neither God nor Jesus ever once said a single bad word about homosexuality or same-sex sex [Ten Commandments and Matthew, Mark, Luke & John]. In the original ancient Greek scriptures, written by Paul's Scribe, Paul never said anything against homosexuality or same-sex sex in either Romans nor Corinthians. It was later translations (King James) where translators lied to fill out their own hateful agendas, induce fear in the population to bring in more money to the church. the church did the exact same thing with witches, blaming the European Little Ice age on witches, setting up a systematic system for murdering innocent women and men.

Now Christians felt they had permission from god to hate, to torture, muser, imprisonment and discrimination against Homosexual people. The torture and imprisonment went well into my lifetime. The stuck picks up through the eye sockets of men and women to to destroy parts of their brains (Lobotomy) as a cure for homosexuality, while turning them into living vegetables. We were tortured with high amperage electrical-shocks to the genitals, which are still happening in America now by Christian operators promising parents to convert their Christian or Mormon child back to being heterosexual. They also still use chemical versions on Children, using ammonia to induce vomiting, while being shown homosexual pornography.

People justify their own evil in the name of God, often encouraged by Priests and ministers (USA).

I wouldn't say so - i'm from Russia and after 70 years of atheism my country is very traditional in views on sexuality and gender roles at best. It got slightly better for the last 20 years, tough. At least being gay isn't a crime now or so i heard.

Buddhism and Sinto in Japan on the other hand are pretty fine with same-sex relationships. As well as Hinduism to a certain degree in India.

So correctly will be to say that polytheistic (pagan) religions were/are more relaxed in term of accepting sexuality. /sorry for awkward wording English isn't my first language.

The more rigid the society's social and governmental structures are, the more intolerant and segmented the society tends to get. We see this throughout much of Eastern Europe as well as in the Russia and the areas which were once part of the Soviet Union. We in the LGBTQ community very much hope this will change for the better in the coming decade. In the United States, some areas, like the Sought and Middle United States, people re very intolerant, but on much of the Eastern coast and all of the Western Coast, there is a high level of tolerance. The intolerant areas are the most heavily influenced by Christianity.

Pretty much it is Christianity and Islam, representing most of the humans on the planet, which are intolerant of SEXUAL MINORITIES.

I fully understand how hard it is to work in another language, so I admire how good you are at English. I hope you look up the words i use that you are not familiar with. It is good practice for your skills.

Good for you. Each time you look-up words, you slowly get better at it. I still do it myself with English, and it is my only language.
