Hmm, it seems I don't know Jack about American History.
Thanks for enlightening me!

Ha ha, no prob! :) At the time he shows up in my comic, he's about 19 (or 21, there's scholarly debate over that!), he has only been living in America for a few years--as a student at college in New York City. He gets involved with the American Revolution, and is quickly promoted to be captain over the New York Artillery regiment. His fighting and his impeccable artillery company get the attention of George Washington who, a few short months later, will make him one of his aide-de-camps. He quickly becomes Washington's closest secretary, doing all his writing for him, and even, at times, making decisions for him. In the last major battle of the war (Yorktown, 4 years later!) he leaves his office job with the army to become a field officer again, and has a gloriously heroic 'last battle' for which he was remembered. When the new American government is formed in 1787, Washington puts Hamilton on his Cabinet as Secretary of the Treasury.

Hope that helps! :)
