I always go based off of the Pokemon Adventures manga.
Yeah and in Pokemon Adventure manga (Japaneese literal translation) rival Character was named Green and Female one was Blue.
this isn't the only thing which causes confusion in the fandom. in japanese the words for both Blue and Green are the same so really it could be either when translated into english. it just depends which way you take it. in the manga the first translator called Blue/Green Blue, however when the second translator came along he was called Green and the female Kanto character was called Blue. its just the way different people translate it and see it))
