I as someone from a once supremely powerful nation that is now much weaker I can sympathise with those people who want a new Turkish Empire, and those Russians who want to bring back the Soviet Union because of how much weaker the Russian Federation seems.

I'm and internationalist and prefer unification to Balkanization, but centring it around religion and ethnicity is a recipe for trouble.
