I don't really like turn based RPG's (so the gameplay got pretty boring for me), but I absolutely loved the characters and the art style. Honestly I wish it was a movie, I would have loved watching it.

I mean, there are a lot of turn-based RPGs that are very fun to play.

To put in simply, how to make turn-based RPG to not make yawn every turn based battle?
Obviously, to make turn based combat more engaging.

Good examples are:
Shin Megami Tensei series (Incl. Persona), turn based battle system here is good. You cannot win just by pressing attack command every turn. You have to exploit enemy weaknesses and try to find a tactic to defeat each enemy.
And enemies here can defeat your party in few turns unless you defeat them first.

Final Fantasy 1 and 2 on NES. Yes these ones. Because there's no auto-targeting there. You have to plan your attacks to not make your characters attack a dead opponent ^_^

Etrian Odyssey, same as with Shin Megami Tensei ^_^

Six years after my original comment. Six years.

Okay I get it, there is a difference.

I still haven't played through FF13, but I did play FF10 which is turn based and had a lot of fun. Great game.

Well, i'm a psychopatic idiot who defies logic.

Well, FF13 is not a Turn-based game.
It's an active-time, but you press commands as in turn-based.

This game is not turn-based.
