Its a wonder Canada didn't go Socialist, the government was very unpopular, and violence like that happened all the time against protestors. Hell I recon the only thing keeping Newfoundland from turning red back then was its fanatical loyalty to the British Crown.

that is essentially the only reason why canada in its entirety did not become socialist. hence why the west was considered much more socialist, where the loyalty was waning in comparison to the maritimes and what have you.

Yea, less of a history with Britain I suppose. Newfoundland itself was actually very much against confederation until they were pressured into it by Britain (For the better or the worst).

i know, hence why they were the last confederated, until the introduction of nunavut.

I suppose, but there are countless reasons why Newfoundland was the last to join, in the end I guess pride and loyalty come at a huge price. One the other hand, a socialist Canada would be an interesting thing to see indeed.
