It was already planned. Of course that modern bombers should have better weapons than the old 50.cals

A bomber AND a gunship? I'm sure the NUN would want to replace some B-52s with Supernovas.
Because of the big conctruction they can be modified. Some of Supernovas will be without bomb bays and they will work as the close support machines - they will be Spectre's but the B-400 Devastator II will be armed with bomb bays and heavy guns - of course they won't have so much bombs like Supernova's because of the weight.
