Well, in war, the only truly innocent ones are the unarmed civilians that get put in harm's way on the battlefield. Putting on the uniform also sacrifices one's innocence in order to serve one's country. In wars past, if a soldier was seen as a medic (like when wearing an armband or helmet with that big red cross), he was typically the one to be targeted most often for obvious reasons. They didn't care that he was a lifesaver, only that he was a soldier that had the skills and equipment that could patch up other soldiers who could return and kill again.
