ah cool. I'm running a debian based OS on my netbook and really like it. I tried doing an install of debian stable a while back but it just hated my video card or monitor or something. not sure. after I got the nvidia proprietary drivers installed I could only boot up to a black screen. Tried running Mepis after that. Had better luck with that one in that I could actually use the OS, but it would also freak out when I installed nvidia drivers, which would then have to be rolled back from a rescue mode (fun). I think the culprit is actually my lousy monitor, but either way I'm staying ubuntu-bound on my desktop (not that they haven't introduced their own nvidia based foibles since Lucid. I'm constantly on the verge of rolling back to Jaunty).

Sorry for the rant. It's been a lot of fun finding all you other Linux folks on dA.

Anyways, I may take a shot at alsa or alsa mixer or something since I really prefer terminal apps for my netbook.
