How is Canada unnecessary ? (I'm not trying to pick a fight I'm just curious)
Culturally insignificant differences between the United States, only 60 million people, a population hugging the border with the US, militarily dependent on the United States. Economically its little more than a natural-resource exporter.
I can see your point in this case although I'd not call the cultural differences insignificant, there may not be many but they are important to and for the Canadians (minus the Qubecans which is a whole other ballgame)and many of them originated with the empire loyalist from the American Revolution/Uprising.
I don't needed to point out that many Canadians are still and allways will be avid Monarchist which inself is a big difference.
