Yeah it is in my budget, I'm talking about the 17-40 compared to the 16-35. 5D2 is out of my budget, but with a little luck I get this grant ;)

Well if you don't want to do astrophotography and you aren't too bothered about having the pinwheel type sunstars that the 16-35 produces then really you are just looking at a very slight sharpness difference for twice the price. Probably not worth it at the stage you're at in my opinion. It's an upgrade I will probably make a way into the future though :)If you really care you could look at the Canon MTF charts for the two lenses. Oh and the 17-40 deals with flare better :)

This is true. Also it's 77mm so my filters will fit.

What cpl do you use? I'm in need of a new one, want a really good one :)

There are 2 choices for screw in filters. Hoya Super Pro1 Slim Polarizers and B+W Kaesemann Slim. Personally I prefer the hoya because it has a front filter thread so you can put a canon lens cap on. I also find it easier to clean. 90% of photographers prefer the B+W model though because it is made from brass so it doesnt bind as easily and because they say it is harder wearing. I have used both and I think the hoya is better, i bought a new one yesterday. As for how hard wearing it is...I actually stepped on one and cracked it and after that I did all sorts of tests, one of which was scraping keys across the front. It was very resistant to scratching

The hoya slim I've been using doesn't have a thread for my cap or other filters, it's a pain in the ass. I will have to go the pro cpl to get that I guess. I'll check the price difference and go from there. Cheers.
