I've said it before and I'll say it again - anyone playing Sherlock Holmes instantly becomes one hundred times more attractive because of the character.
Not that I didn't adore BC in everything else he's been in!

Well can't say anything but agree with you. I'm not sure that I would be so charmed with BC if I saw his previous films earlier than I watched Sherlock. Sherlock Holmes though he never existed in reality sometimes seems more real than living beings, and actor who manages to portray him well gets a ton of his charisma in back.
In spite of SH is being adapted so many times, there are only some of actors who are well known for playing this role: Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone, Livanov and now BC. What can i say - good luck for him, and really good job done.
I can say that there's only one movie which could impress me perhaps as much as Sherlock, if i happened to watch it earlier: Hawking. It's just a masterpiece, and BC is brilliant there, i loved the movie since i first watched it and have already re watched it a million times )

I never saw Hawking but he was brilliant in Small Islands and Amazing Grace (but not attractive). He's just a fantastic actor and you have to be to pull off a character like Holmes.
And I agree that despite being completely fictional, the character has such a lasting legacy. I find it really sad that Arthur Conan Doyle never truly appreciated his creation!
Aw well, I can appreciate SH more than enough for the both of us :D

I've seen Amazing Grace, and definitely will try and find Small Islands to watch it.
Hawking is profoundly worth seeing. BC is the leading character there so the movie is totally focused on his play. It is a touching, inspiring story about a strong and gifted man, who was capable of really big things in spite of his destructive disease. Based on a true story.
(I have a plan to draw BC's character form the movie ^^)
