If you change icons with Candybar, there's no mess :) no matter what's the app, you can change the icon.

This is not the case. Look at this thread sir: [link]

Whatttt :iconwthplz: I had no idea of that issue... I just extracted the icon and made the mods, I've never changed the Sparrow icon, so I never had a crash.

It happens with more apps or just Sparrow?

I have pretty much only gotten Sparrow on the App Store so I don't know if it's a common issue, but it's annoying as hell!

Is not a Sparrow bug? Have you reported this to the Sparrow team?

Same here. Sparrow is one of the only apps I got from the app store and it crashes every time I try to change the icon whether I try manually or using CandyBar.

I also hate the App Store and won't use it again unless I absolutely have to. [link]

That sucks man. I've never used it. Just took a look around the apps, categories, etc., but haven't bought anything yet. Even more since I tried to download Twitter but got a weird, "unexplainable" error :O fuck it, I've downloaded it from the Internet.
It's not a Sparrow bug... all App Store apps are code signed, meaning you can't change the icons, change the name or add a label...

Another reason why I hate the AS...
Oops.. Apparently not all apps react like that! I had tried three and they all behaved the same, so I assumed. But Evernote lets you change the icon no problem! I does require more fiddling and permission granting, but seems like Sparrow peeps are a bit full of it saying it's Apple's fault.

I stand corrected ;)
You can change the icon as long as you dont change the ressources files, just click "get info" on the sparrow app then unlock and give yourself read/write acces then copy the icon you want to use, select the sparrow icon on top of the get info window and paste, and voila :)

I just did :)

Hah, yeah oh sparrow...

WTF! What a shit dude... hope they fix it in the next OS X build.
Yeah... I doubt it. As much as I like my Mac, I have to says that customizing may be on it's way out. Apple loves to control everything and they now have the perfect venue to do it. Apple knows best I guess.

Now I haven't tried Candybar, and there is bound to be a way to hack it. It's just not out yet to my knowledge... and the thing is, this is going to be associated with piracy and probably - rightfully I guess - countered quite a bit by developers.

I have not. But I'll do so now!
