One thing I need to know. Since what I'm planning on dyeing is already sewn into shape (zentai suit. long story.), is there any risk of accidentally 'melting' the fabric into itself? And, if there is, how can I avoid doing that?

By melting do you mean fusing the fibers together, or the color running into other parts of the zentai suit when you don't want it to?

For the former, spandex, lycra, and such have a pretty high heat tolerance. As long as the water is hot, but not too hot for the touch, then you're fine.

For the latter, dye with spandex, lycra, etc. doesn't spread like with cotton or silk. It tends to stay focused on the area that is being dyed. But if you are concerned about bleeding, look into getting a rRsist like Gutta or Batik Wax. Place an inch ring around the area that you want to dye and don't want to dye, and you should be good. The Resist can be removed after you're done: [link]
