Private companies usually know how to do their job properly.. but the government on the other hand couldn't care less about a public transport disaster.. they have other things to worry about like fighting terrorisim

Yeah I've been stuck there too a few times.. Strange place Redfern.
Ran into some unsavoury characters who roam that station at odd hours of the night.. trying to sell me their last eightball for a 'special price'.
:S see, our 'Transperth' is public, but it runs at98% on time, both according to their stats, and my own experience ... and by ontime, they mean within 5 minutes of the time scheduled ... really, when you think about it, 5 minutes over a 90 minute train trip ain't too bad ... but by the sounds of it, CityRail sucks balls ... :S

I could say the same thing about Chicago Buses. Terrible.
Also, because the CTA (Public Transit) is underfunded, they're going to jack train and bus prices to something like $2.50 on the 16th. That, and cut a ton of bus-lines and then, trains won't run at midnight or later anymore.
I'm a young guy who can't drive, someone who's social life and acedemic life thrives on the CTA. Son of a bitch.
