I mean its fantastic, the message, the picture......
but, I can't help but feel as though many people don't understand some of the concepts of Islam.

Well, a gay muslim is like a gay Catholic or a gay Jew, really. They're no more paradoxical or less existent as demographics.
I could make the argument of 'Why not just be a gay monotheists and not bother with any church that clearly, at least at one point, demanded your death?', but...I think that's a pointless windmill to tilt at, quite frankly.
