Eyepopping  huh?
all the ones i'v seen go like this:
1. paint the flat colors
2. paint the shadows
3. paint the highlights
...how???

:D ok, maybe i've just been unlucky with my searches...but yeah most of them already assume i'm a good painter. while in reality, i cant even make a stroke on my touchpad without veering off course :D

but to be fair, it's been a looooooong while since i even searched for a tutorial on gimp...

Ah ok :D GIMP actually has a painter's version (GPS) that was released not too long ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9tOnx… I just got in my chat, so stop in! :D

so i got gps...and i followed the "eye" tutorial that came with it. it started out nicely and it was all smiles and roses until they started saying "draw this", "draw that". if i knew how to draw "this" and "that", then i wouldnt be reading the tutorial, would i? :D
i've started looking around again. if inkscape doesnt work out maybe i'll just get manga studio since it also supports vector drawing. and it lets me edit brush strokes like curves in blender

thanks...i would never have found that on my own. i'll try out GPS and see what comes out of it...also gonna try out inkscape. it's vector abilities might be just what i need to get pixel perfect strokes :)
looks like i'm not gonna be able to stop by today :( we r moving to a new house far far far far away. really busy day. i'll send u a note once it's over

OK cool :D Inkscape is cool too, I have it also but don't use it much. :D Stop in the chat whenever you can, usually someone is in there :D

*head scratch* my reply somehow disappeared, it seems...or maybe i posted it in the wrong place?
anyways let's see if i can replicate it :D

i began searching for alternatives. if inkscape doesnt work out for me, maybe i'll just get manga studio since it also supports vector drawing and it lets me edit points on my brush strokes like bezier curves. that way i wouldnt have to worry about going off course with my strokes.

but first, i need to be absolutely 200% sure that neither gimp nor inkscape has that same functionality

Wish I could help but I mostly use GIMP for my signature  YouTube has more GIMP tutorials than you could possibly watch in a year, so I would start there :D I'm sure you know by now, but GIMP also has various websites devoted to it as well. :D
