Do you think drawing from a photo makes for a more "flat image" than drawing from life? I had an art instructor tell me this once.

Honesty? Never tried drawing from life. It would NOT be realism style, cuz they wouldn't hold still for 12 hours lol :D:D

The only technique that I have found for this is doing the quick light sketch and then coming back. I have had studio models that will hold still for about twenty minutes. Long enough for me to get the basics down and then I go back in and make changes. Maybe a hybrid? Model and photo? Might be fun.

The cheapest easy way to get models and studio time is to take a life drawing class at a community college. I took a few classes at my local community college and there were three professional artists in the class just for that very reason. Just take the class for zero credits and you don't have to do any extra homework.
