I watched your video. What is the red background layer? And when you paint, say, the clouds, do you use layers for each color? I wish there was more in the video :) I love your work and I'm very curious ~

I often start from a red background. I don't like to use too many layers but in this case was useful to control the tonalities of sky, clouds and leaves.
I would like to show more but capturing video make my computer too slow, maybe I'll try again working on a simple illustration :)

By the way, I too love working with that earthy red underlayer: [link] and [link]
I love that yours is digital and look more pastel-like than what I was achieving with traditional pastel painting, haha.

wow, the face and cheecks are lovely!
Haha, but I could not do it with traditional media, I was a disaster drawing with pastels :D
btw, you're a great photographer!

Thanks! I've had this drawing for several months now. It's still just a head...And I haven't drawn since :(
And thank you, it is nice to be a photographer for a living, but drawing will always be my first love. It's just SO hard for me! I want to write a novel one day too. Haha, so many things to do!

Your work is very inspiring, so I hope you never stop posting :)

That would be lovely! I just downloaded a couple of "chalky" brushes for photoshop to have fun with. It didn't end well :)

I know, it's no easy, you should practice a lot with these kind of brushes. :)

Definitely! I just got a wacom (needed it for photography retouching) so I'm hoping to get more practice. Do you make your own brushes?

yes, I have replaced all the standard photoshop brushes with my own brushes.
