I don't know if you remember, but Charmander evolved into a highly-volatile Charmeleon and then a Charizard that wouldn't take orders until Ash really proved himself to be a worthy trainer. That was in either season three or four—one of the Johto ones. He left Charizard in the Charicific Valley with other Charizards. Sorta like a sanctuary. Now, it comes when he senses Ash is in danger, though I think it's been quite a while since the anime has seen him.
As for Squirtle, it was left with one of the many Officer Jennys and a gang of Squirtle (yes, "The Squirtle Squad"). I don't know if it ever came back.
Bulbasaur is with Professor Oak, I believe.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that I'm much more of a pseudo Pokémon Professor than a Trainer these days. After all, I suck at EV training. 
hehe, well I know who to go to when I have poke questions. Are u pokemon professor on the pokemon games too? I kinda lost track of the games after ruby/sapphire.
Sorta. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are not my strong suits, and technically, I only have played Platinum, not Diamond or Pearl. They're basically the same, but as with all generations up until Black and White, Platinum is the more enhanced one. I've played SoulSilver, playing HeartGold at the moment, and I've played Black. I just started White recently.
