I picked a polyester/cotton blend because it was fairly stiff and really the only thing I could find with a color that made my happy when I made the costume. Honestly when I made the costume there was only like a few shots of vash, the first dvd hadn't even been released in america so I used Japanese pictures of him, but now days I collect as many references I can of people I want to cosplay. Yes that whole collar is a seperate piece that I made a paper pattern for until it looked right. Good luck with the costume!
