PFFF I don't feel sorry for him at all...it's Smithers you should feel sorry for. He's worked for him for over 25 years, through thick and thin he's stayed by his side. He's been pushed around, abused, belittled and berated, and he still loves Mr. Burns with all of his heart and would do pretty much anything for him. Poor Smithers.
