Comment on Emma Frost by Chalaya
You linked me to this one quite some time ago but I haven't gotten around to commenting on it until now. Obviously 
is a beast. His style is crazy and his art is amazing. That said, it takes guts to take on the task of colouring one of his pieces. I must say that you stepped up to the challenge and delivered a great piece. I am in awe by how talented you are when it comes to highlights, lowlights and shading overall. Emma has such depth to her skin here. That also extends to her costume and makes it look very tactile. I can almost feel and hear it. The way in which you coloured her hair here is also great. It's just so pretty! One of my favourite things that you've done, and it might seem like a small detail, are the shiny spots on her "X" brooch and the jewel on her glovelet. It adds dimension. Lastly I want to compliment you on your choice in background. Those colours work well with her costume and compliment it quite well. The movement of the lines also adds quite a bit of movement to the piece and makes it appear that much more dynamic. Overall, great job!

Oh man, I know! 's lines are amazing! I wish I could color every last one of them. Thank you so much. It's an honor that you mention my shading and highlights because when I first started coloring again, that was a major difficulty for me. I believe I've come a long way with my shading and I'm so glad you think it's good. I was especially proud of her skin. It's one of the first pieces where I actually used some mauve undertones and I shaded with violet. It makes a deeper shadow than just using a darker skin tone.
With the costume I wanted to kind of emulate the comic book style colors with the strong lines while still keeping it my own style of coloring. Too bad my scanner ate it. Even after two hours of adjustments in photoshop, it still doesn't look like it does on the paper. Oh and I love when people point out the small details! I was wondering if anyone even noticed the shine I put on her jewel and broach. Again, the gel pen saves the day, and a pit of white pencil to create the sparkle lines. I'm glad I could give you a few comments that you really appreciate and can use. As an artist, I definitely understand what comments mean the most especially when people take the time to pour over the details of a drawing. It makes all the hard work seem worth it. I personally love picking out the minute details of people's work because it is usually those elements that really polish everything off. You really did do a marvellous job!
Thanks so much again! I feel the exact same way. Yeah, those details are really what makes a picture stand out and they're often over looked. I try to do that too when I comment, pick out the small things. People usually do appreciate that. Those tiny details take a lot of thought and planning sometimes!
