Yes and yes.

What I did (if I remember correctly... I took this photo in February or something) was use ginger ale, the clearest soda I had on hand- and actually the brownish-tan bubbles (sounds unappetizing, doesn't it?)worked better. I poured it in a clear glass, and put a black sheet of paper behind it. Or it may have been black fabric. I had an ott light shining on it to light up the bubbles. And, about fifty meh shots later, there I was.

Ott light: [link] I highly reccomend it for indoor macro. The light is white, so you don't have to compensate, and it's fairly manuverable, so you can manipulate the shadows as necessary. Just don't look directly at the bulb.

wow, thank you very much! i've been wanting to invest in a good, easy artificial lighting, and i was overwhelmed by how many there were. that one seems perfect.
