I can understand why some people find it a little annoying at how they can spend hours on a beautiful picture just to receive 50 and under faves. But, faves don't mean a lot, it's just lack of exposure. and I think building a fan base here is important for growth, but not necessarily essential. A lot of the people I watch always make the front page with each deviation, and which is where I found most of them. But I also find a lot of "hidden talent" just browsing, and it doesn't necessarily make them any better, it's just that they had the fortune of being noticed.
Personally, i'm not bothered about being popular here, just as long as I improve while i'm here
