right above all of your layers theres a little menue including layer opasety, next to theat there is a little white box with all the layer setting and effects. right now in that littel white box it should say "normal" but if you click on that a little drop down menue appears, which lists all the other settings. \
i used multiply for shading, and soft light, hard light, or overlay for lighting.
