Found this on ebay: [link]

Even the paint job is the exact same. If you did those gradients yourself, please enlighten me.

I've worked with fiberglass resin before, and all I see there is plaster. You can't just carve into the stuff with a knife. Depending on how you mix it, it can either harden really fast, or at such a slow speed that those sharper edges would have softened by the time you were done. I didn't see anything about sanding it, which is how it's usually done, and you don't work with fiberglass resin inside where the fumes are deadly.

I agree they look too similar... I may not be an expert in making cosplays but... I know this has to be store bought. Its too similar to the ebay one.

Wow! He made his mask so accurate, that the knobs that hold the horns in the mask are THE SAME. Talk about supreme craftsmanship!

Also, I have to agree, I know people who work with fiberglass and resin casting, it doesn't get that perfectly smooth perfectly shaped perfectly symmetrical appearance without a vacuum machine. Sorry, but there is a distinct difference between handcrafted and machine made.

i have found multiple things that make the two masks, the red paint on the ebay mask is on a slightly higher elevation then the white paint, unlike L.I.'s. the horns are more square at the turns and the teeth are shaded differently. L.I'S eyes are wider and the middle hook brows look different in shape and in form. but yes they are close.

L.I.'s masks horns are a bit different, the corners are more round. the teeth dont stick out as much. L.I.'s mask teeth are also longer, the eyes are wider. there is no paint between the teeth on L.I.

i also forgot to say we modeled the mask after the ones on the net. Many people do that all the time.

You also forgot a lot of things. That's why you threw this whole thing together. You seem to "suddenly remember" important details when someone points out a flaw in your story, then when a flaw is found in your "remembered details" then you backpedal even more, or just delete the comment like it never existed. Strange how you only remember these important details after someone has proven you wrong. . .

Great job on the mask! It looks so similar to the one Malinda linked to, it's ALMOST as if you bought it, and then passed it off as something you actually MADE! But you're such an amazing and HONEST cosplayer, you would NEVER think of doing such a thing!

(I love how you're adding this new bit of info only after someone posted evidence.)

I've explaned this to many people before that it was made with help with my brother that makes stuff like this for a living, over a year ago. Im no expert with fiber glass but we did use many different materials to make the mask fiberglass, pvc, plaster, not sure what else. We didnt shape the teeth, we actually used a an older mask that had those teeth to attach it to the helm. I didnt mention sanding? damn i knew i rushed this tutorial, my bother who greatly helped me make it doesnt live with me anymore so i couldnt remember some of the steps to how the mask was made. The paint work we did is actually fades out from solid to less solid red. We did that so it would look different. If i remember correctly it hardened slow so thats while the carve marks dont look that grate as ive shown in the pictures. I know we sand the hell out it and made sure the inside was smooth so my face wouldnt be smashed, which it still does, lol. You know that people can make really detailed replicas of anything if they're skilled enough. It was a difficult project that we worked on whenever my brother had free time to help, hence it taking to long to make. Im not sure what else to say. I mean we have pictures but if i knew i needed a ton more back then for people to believe me then we would of, we made this when i first started to get more involved with cosplay and i didnt think it was too important to be so detailed on examples of the work. hell i wasnt even wanting to post this tutorial caus t could have been better, bu people asked so i posted. I honestly not sure what else to tell u. My future projects im actually will take more detailed pics and video of what i do if that helps people out, im not sure what more i can do since I myself am still learning all this stuff too.

I think you did very well for someone self taught. The people I showed it to got it but could tell you were not schooled in sewing. But seriously she's had 40 years of training. ;)

I completely back Malindachan on this one. The mask you show is definitely a type of vacuum form plastic or a polymer plastic by the nearly flawless shape. Plaster is not a forgiving medium and takes years of practice to master it because of it's chalky and heavy nature (I greatly dislike it and avoid it at all cost). Also, totally agree with the point of fiberglass, it's stupid, and I say this with hands on experience with every material that I've stated.

Good stuff, Malindachan, hopefully he won't delete your comment but it's likely that he will. I can't speak about fiberglass as I've never worked with it before, butI can promise you what he has there was not made by him. Those progress pictures are so staged it's ridiculous. If I had to guess, some of those photos probably weren't even taken by him; probably found on the web :P
