Prior to the Nazi Party's shit concerning it, it was actually a fairly common geometric symbol found in TONS of cultures.
While that may be true, the average person on the street will probably think of the more modern association with Nazi Germany. That is why I used the word connotation, because despite the fact that an alternative definition is still applicable, the common perception of a swastika is negative.
