Evil? I don't see it myself. Black humour perhaps. A less than stately ball for the recently, and not so recently departed... Although I feel the conversation at such an event would be dead...
I really did enjoy this poem. Apart from the line So this shrouded made his rapid way [which doesn't quite make sense, unless a word is missing] This is quite well written. I particularly am impressed with the way you have described the scene. I doubt prose could succeed any more successfully.
this is brill, reminded me of a lot of 18th century gothic stuff like Lewis and Shelley, especially from Frankenstein i think its something like :
The man who walks oft in fear and dread
Knowing close behind him a fearful thing doth tread...
I got a real sense of a haunted faintly burlesque poem like something satirised by the likes of Anne Ratcliffe. you are definately dwelling in a romantic gothic realm! apart from anything else your rhyming scheme is superlative and you have a real knack for creating suspense. this is engrossing.
I would have to agree completely with :devdarkscrescendo:, especially in the way I doubt that this piece could be surpassed in prose. You wrote this in a truly amazing fashion! Great work!
