The thing is, this sin't just a backstory, this is a complete rewrite of the entire series by a guy who hates all 4 of the original games. Dante is now a half-angel chain-smoking emo bitch who looks like a stunt double for Edward Cullen. Trish is likely gone because of this whole origin change, and probably Vergil. Everything you know about DMC? Forget it, because apparently Capcom doesn't think it's good enough anymore.
It's an alternate universe, that has nothing to do with the original canon, and doesn't change it. No different from all the different iterations of comic books or old mediums like Alice in Wonderland. It's just another take on the series.
A completely unnecessary one made because some guy doesn't feel it was "edgy" and "badass" enough for his liking.
One guy? I imagine you mean Tameem. Try the people in charge of Devil May Cry at Capcom, who wanted something different, and hired Ninja Theory to do it, and actually told them to move further and further away from the initial designs that NT proposed that very closely resembled the classic series.
Yeah, uh, this whole thing is basically Tameem's vanity project. And Capcom, being filled mostly with fucking idiots, went right along with it. I mean, for fuck's sake, Donte even LOOKS like Tameem, and the game is based around what HE thinks is cool and relevant. All this illuminati bullshit with thinly-veiled stabs at Fox News, the world's easiest target, and an equivalent of Anonymous thrown into the mix. Tameem also openly thinks the original DMC games are nothing but rehashed action schlock with unlikeable characters and bad writing, and that Bayonetta is too over the top and "too Japanese" to model a new DMC after {despite DMC and Bayonetta sharing the exact same universe and Bayonetta being directly modelled after DMC's style}.
And all the while, Capcom and Ninja Theory desperately try to convince themselves and the world that no one likes the old Dante, the original DMC games were never good or cool or widely loved, everyone loves the fuck out of this game, etc. Just completely driving away and disrespecting everyone who loved the series.
Meanwhile, the infamously self-absorbed creator of God of War owes his series' existance to DMC and openly admits DMC is better than God of War.

Except Dante looks nothing like Tameem and everything like the dude playing him - Tim Phillips. Even the placeholder 2010 Dante looked nothing like Tameem (no similar facial structure, nose, jaw, cheeks), except for a goddamn similar haircut, which was based off the punk culture, not explicitly Tameem's hair. He just happened to have a similar haircut at the time.
I've never in the two years I've been watching stuff for DmC seen Tameem or anyone from NT say they think the "original DMCs are nothing but rehashed action schlock" so I don't know how you can say "openly." I have, however, seen people continuously put words in their mouths and take what they say out of context, just so they can feel slighted. And Bayonetta IS very over-the-top and Japanese, and when Capcom came to them asking for a more Western-styled game, why would they continue with such an Eastern take on things? They ended up making a game based more on our "societal ills" as they call it, to lampoon things people are dealing with today, there's no problem with parodying real life, and it's not like it's some thinly veiled propaganda.
And please, they aren't trying to convince anyone of anything, they're just talking about the new game and how and why it's different, and people are getting way too upset, and contriving reasons to hate it. It also isn't driving away all the original fans - you can't possibly say something like that, because there is no proof, and there's actually proof on the contrary. I'm a huge fan of the series, and I can't wait to play DmC, so...my existence itself spits in the face of your claim :/ The only people I've ever seen disrespected are the assholes who threw stones first, even sending death threats and consistently attacking people like Tameem every chance they get. The guy is doing a fucking job, and people want his head on a pike. Passionate fans are great, but a lot of it has gone too far, and I've never seen one insult thrown that "disrespected everyone who loved the series."
The funny thing is, DMC was never really all that popular, it as a niche hack 'n' slash genre, which oddly enough is overshadowed nearly 3 to 1 by God of War's sales - but that's mostly because God of War is an immensely easy game where you just jam buttons to kill everything in a room with your screen-clearing chain swords. DMC is awesome, it isn't nearly as popular as fans like to think :s

Overall though, my original point was Donte sucks. And he serious does. He's like a 13-year-old who just learned some new dirty words. He's an annoying, foul little punk-ass bitch who is not badass nor cool, and the real Dante could kick his arrogant, anti-corporate ass without even trying.

Uh huh, whatever. Nevermind the fact that little of what you just said is close to truth, you're totally right. DMC was never tht popular, everyone loves the new game and it'll be a big success, they've totally never said anything negative about the original or tried to convince people that the originals aren't cool anymore, blah blah blah.
