When i was a kid, we use to find leftover weapons/ammunition in the ground left over from WWII, and we used those to play with (the casualties where quite high due to many idiots not knowing how to use guns, and not to point it at your own face/other people/even worse other people with guns) .

Along with those, we found various other interesting stuff like Soviet and German military uniforms and other items like undetonated bombs and shells, shit was fun.

Oh, and if you are wondering where it was, it was in Ukraine, back in the early 90'ies

Wow, the only thing I found from a little after that time period was a plastic soldier.

Well, thats to be expected since you are from the US, and the US never had any serious WWII related battles or heavy military activity on its soil (pearl harbor does not even qualify), so you wouldnt have much stuff to find in the ground

Yeah, that's true my grandfather was at Pearl Habor.

Yeah, i think there will be plenty more to find for another 150 years, at least. Dont forget that after they are found/used, they quite often end up back in the ground for storage. Recycling at its finest lol.

Also, to give you a number of arms that are constantly being found: more than 70% of black market arms in Ukraine/Russia originate from WWII leftovers. There is even a criminal profession called "black archeologist" there, its guys who learn WWII war history, and then excavate arms for later resale on the black market.
