For advanced/experienced keepers YES. Definitely not a good starter tarantula. Though this specie, they say, is a good first starter into the more "defensive" tarantulas (after experience of course :)). Their venom is really strong also. Best thing is respect their space and try not to startle them.

I would recommend, for a first pokie, a P.miranda or a p.subfusca. They are the more mellow of the specie.

Thanks for the information. My first tarantula will be either a rose hair or Mexican red knee but I'm curious about other species as well in the future.

Those are 2 great choices for beginner T's. Even a chaco golden knee is good too. Or an Aphonopelma specie, like a chalcodes.
