Same thing. But there's more than one. There's the manga, the tv show, one or two OVA, one or two animated movie, an new revamp of the show coming out, and a live action film coming out. It's confusing to line them all out....
Lol, yeah I think I remember reading or hearing that the anime didn't end how it should have, like with main characters dying and such. It's kind of like Fullmetal Alchemist. The first anime of it completly screwed up the storyline. But then they came out with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and it followed the manga^^
