I love his (her?) design. And I especially love the partial translucency of the wing and how it's being lit from behind. The way his wing arms are grasping the branch and trunk somehow makes him seem truly alive and not just a static drawing.
He might be a young one, since a more experienced wyvern would likely be able to balance in the tree without needing to grasp it with his forelimbs. Or perhaps it's like you said, he's on the hunt and spotted prey below and is leaning down to get a better look, to see if it's succulent enough to warrant leaving his perch.
