Hehehe experimenting is really useful- and of course, keeping in mind complementary colours and monochromatic and analogous-
a super useful tip when picking colours is to stick them together in a cluster and completely de-saturate the image! If the tones are all similar, you need to fix the colours
and if just two are similar, change one until the tones are different. 8>

Thanks for all the tips! I knew about the de-saturating trick, but I always forget about basic colour theory. xD
I think the biggest problem for me is that I'm so used to seeing certain groups of colours that I think, 'those go together,' but once it's something different I don't know how to handle it. |D Maybe I'll try some of those preset colour palettes and see what happens. o3o
