What do you think, does this look better? [link]

More of Dash's face is blocked, and Spike's arm is still stretched, of course, but at least it isn't bent weird anymore. I wonder if her neck is too short.

(I hope you don't mind me asking, but you're the only one who pointed out the detail that was bothering me, so you seem like a good one to ask.)

Well, that definitely looks more believable. :) However, in the original it was perfectly clear that Spike's left hand is holding RD's nose, while here it's rather unclear, and his arm looks as if he had long chin or something.

BTW, as far as I can tell, there should be no such line on the wing on the back, only on the one on the front.

Oh, right, the wing thing was just copy-pasting without thinking about the different perspective on the back wing. Easy to fix.

Other problem is a bit trickier, but maybe it's good enough to just pull them apart slightly more, like this [link] Although that kinda looks like weird mouth pincers instead of his hand, hmm...

It seems a bit better now, but I think his fingers should be thinner; you could also try adding a visible tip of one of his other fingers, since he's probably holding her nose like this: [link]

Probably not hard to tell that most of this was constructed from a combination of various screenshot traces that I then altered to suit my purposes. So it's kinda funny that the hand is creating trouble, because that's one of the few details I didn't adjust in the slightest after the initial trace. But then maybe that's part of the problem. Almost every part of Spike's body was tweaked in one way or another to fit my needs, so leaving one detail alone makes it stand out. Or else its just due to its position behind his head now.

Anyway, I tried having another finger visible behind him earlier, but it just looks weird, some random pointy thing poking out of his face, so I deliberately kept it out of sight.

Ah well, at this point maybe I should just leave it, since I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the altered version anyway. Are the changes I'm making too much modification to replace this original entirely? It's a larger change than the little edits I typically make. Does it bother people to make significant modifications after they've already favorited a picture?

I believe it's best to just keep it as an alternate version available through a link to Sta.sh, since replacing the original could upset some people, and uploading it as a separate deviation would be obnoxious in my opinion. (Says someone who did it himself a few times in the past, lol.)

Yeah, I usually don't like uploading multiple versions of the same picture. Although there are a few people I know of who have a bunch of slightly different versions of practically everything in their gallery, and people don't seem to complain. The thing is that hardly anyone clicks links to Sta.sh'ed alternates, so I pretty much might as well not even bother.

Maybe I should make a journal and see if anyone else has an opinion on whether altering a picture is annoying. Or maybe I should just put it in my scraps.

Anyway, thanks for your input with all this. I'm kinda surprised how much this turned into an ongoing conversation.
