This is Indy. Greetings from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.
How long have you been interested in Sherlock? I supposed you have noticed, at some point, that Moffat/Gatiss(Mycrof) have followed Conan Doyle's tales pretty faithfully; right up to and including Reichenbach Falls, with St. Bart's Hospital standing in for the actual waterfall.
If you read some of the tales (stories)in FanFiction.net, you'll find that some of the tales do take place in warmer temperatures, thus no need for the great coat and scarf. I'm even writing tales that take place in warmer times of the year. I'm a Canadian, so I think you can understand with a country that has winters that are hard to believe when it comes unbelievable amounts of snow (at times), that I I prefer writing a tale that has characters in summer climes rather than the cold!
In light of this, you must remember that Sherlock Holmes, the dear boy, is a sociopath--despite what Donovan calls him. He has two of the classic symptoms for sociopathy--a)The inability to read people's facial expression and body language and b)having no knowledge of how to join in on social interactions. I think a third symptom would be very high intelligence, which Sherlock has in spades!
There has been discussions in which Sherlock has been described as a high functioning autistic or even having Asperger's Syndrome, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has even referred to his detective as a sociopath. No matter what Donovan or Anderson say, sociopaths don't kill. Sherlock would use a gun in self defence, on in boredom as in the case of the wallpaper, but he won't shoot anyone deliberately.
Between you, me and the back fence, I hear there's a grassroots (small scale) movement going on to get Benedict to wear the deerstalker (Sherlock's hat) for at least part of an episode. I'm not really sure how this will pan out.
