He's actually more like Ichabod Crane from Sleepy Hollow. Professor Ludavec is a researcher at the University of Thalan who specializes in the studies of Vampirism and Lycanthropy. The Church of Maralen calls him a blasphemer because they believe that vampires are under the spell of a demonic curse, and werewolves are heathens who are being punished by Maralen for their sins.
But the scholars at the University have physical proof that they are both a virus. And after about 20 years of scientific research, he believes he's found a cure for Lycanthropy and Vampirism. A vaccine that once injected into the bloodstream will make you immune to becoming afflicted by vampires and werewolves, and preventing you from becoming one of them.
After this scientific breakthrough, the University has an important mission; to spread word to the other scientists in the provinces that they've discovered a cure. Ludavec embarks on this journey on his own initiative and brings with him samples of the vaccine to give to the other scientists for them to duplicate it, and eventually mass-produce it.
Ludavec isn't exactly what you would call someone who would fit the picture for being the messenger. He's well-educated and highly sophisticated, but he's unexperienced in the field. The only thing he has to protect himself is a Blunderbuss with silver bullets, and he does not have much experience with firearms. Because guns aren't required for his line of work.
My other character in development is an A'laque explorer named Kateous (A'laque for White Stag), and he's more like the experienced werewolf/vampire hunter who's armed to the teeth. His two favorite weapons are a crossbow that opens like a switchblade and folds closed when not in use, and a tomahawk that was given to him by his father. He's also an experience archer who is skilled with the bow. He's the kind of guy who means business, failure is not an option. He's very proud of his lineage and wears the charms and totems of his tribe, which most people in Thalan fear and hate the A'laque for being "savages."
