wow Rikona, I appreciate the detailed responses you give. I agree, the background is painfully empty. When I first did this I was thinking of it as website decoration, so it had a graphic background that only made sense as part of my website (www.theincredibleandy.com). I also was trying to make some good spot illustrations to prove to clients that I could do them, so I didn't let myself do something with the background (even though I should have). As for the color, sometimes I have ideas that work out nicely in my head but definitely look bad when I try to bring them out. This is one of those occasions.
Thanks again for the good critting. It's helpful, appreciated, and it lets me know people find my stuff worth improving.
Wow, I really love her expression! I like grins like that. The skin is done seriously well and so is the cloth. Beautiful. But maybe some brighter blues? That'd make it really stand out.
-- I'm sorry about the day, it's just the way the medication makes her...
congrats very nice i agree with calimax tho the only thing to make it better would be to brighten the cloth colors or change the background and lessen the shadows to go with it but other than that its perfect you did a great job with the cloth i like it

im off on my own little planet one that no one can find for you see this planet exisits only with in my mind
i know im crazy but its the ones who dont admit it that you have to watch for
I really like her expression and the general way you drew her face. Very few people can draw a face at that angle and keep it from looking broken and distorted. Kudos to you for that accomplishment
I also like the way you drew her neck, and the fabric of her dress. The shading on it is very nice.
In comparison to the detail put into the woman though, the background is so plain. The pet's simplicity makes sense, since it seems to be basically a blob of light, but the bg just looks kind of blah.
Even if you didnt do a full scale detailed image of the inside of a room or in a forest or something, just having a little bit of something in there than just the reddish black that you have right now would look better....Or maybe even just making the background dark blue or black. The red/brown shade that you have just doesn't go with the image I think...Blue would suit the whole thing much more.
But yeah, still a great pic. I love the smile most of all. Lots of character in it. ^_^

First off, everyone here at deviantART would like to say THANK YOU!!! We have received an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm for the launch of version 6 and believe that this has been our best-received launch to date.
You might even be one hell of a profesional, but if you don't SHOW it and PROVE it, how will everyone know? These facts are important not only when you are looking for a job, but in any situation when you wish to showcase your work. I decided to share a few guidelines that might help you give the best of yourself and help you be a better profesional.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More

You can hit your mark, you can fly high, you can reach your goals!-... but you can also fall flat on your face.
